It looks like just when you thought the McCain/Palin campaign couldn’t find enough feet to shoot itself in, this comes out:
11. Are you offended by the phrase “Under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance? Why or why not?
Sarah Palin: Not on your life. If it was good enough for the founding fathers, its good enough for me and I’ll fight in defense of our Pledge of Allegiance.
How about a quick history lesson? The Pledge was written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy. “Under God” was not added until 1954 when America was in the grip of McCarthyism. The last Founding Father to die was James Madison in 1836. That’s 56 years before the Pledge itself was written and a full 118 years before “Under God” was added in. Shouldn’t a candidate for VP at least have a passing knowledge of American history?

While you are correct about the origin of the pledge, those founding fathers did pledge their allegiance to the Republic, and most of them believed in God.
Technically she might be wrong, but in substance she is right on

Palin is wrong both technically and substantively. She specifies she will “fight in defense of OUR Pledge of Allegiance”, not the concept of allegiance to the Republic. Apologize all you want, sam (as many undoubtedly will), but Palin’s wingnut ignorance is showing.
The sharpest tool in the shed she ain’t.

What does the fact that most of them believed in a god have to do with the entirely secular nation that they founded? She is still wrong no matter how you look at it.

And Barack Obama thought Canada had a President. Two can play at that game…

Let’s see how they match up: A slip of the tongue when referring to a foreign dignitary or being completely wrong when it comes to a vital piece of the history of your country and an issue that, self-admittedly, is near and dear to her? Obama’s gaffe was in the midst of a debate with several of his rivals for the candidacy. Palin’s was in writing in response to a questionnaire sent to her by a right-wing special interest group. Which would you say is the more egregious error?

I am going to vote for McCain and you already know I am a Christian. I just hope Palin doesn’t turn out to be a female Dan Quayle.
Just thought I’d say hello Starbix. Even though we think differently on many issues, doesn’t mean we can’t be friendly and respect each other as people.

The best thing we thinkers have in life is watching our fear-based co-humans fuck up and misconstrue documented history. Experience gives us few reasons to take homo sapiens seriously. I’ll never understand why some people want to blame us on their god.

How about the fact that Biden was wrong in his answer about the roll of the VP? I think that’s a Little more pertinent, especially since he’s been in govt since the stone age.
Do you really want a guy who doesn’t know what the VP’s responsibilities are IN THAT JOB? Or a heart-beat away from the presidency??

If you want to go down the slip of the tounge road, try Obama’s “my muslim faith”.. I think that was more of a freudian slip.

If you want to read the truth about Sarah Palin, check out this post, exposing her blatant misrepresentation of American History:

Not checking the facts, quoting sources which have obvious bias, gotta love the lunacy of the far-left.
This SAT story has been debunked by the way…
http://www.stoptheaclu.com/archives/2008/10/11/fake-palin-sat-scores-fool-left-o-sphere/
It seems these test scores where that of a blogger which someone grabbed and edited. Sickening…
You people whine and complain over the treatment of Barack Obama, and you do this. I find it downright disturbing now that even mentioning his links to Ayers, ACORN, Khalidi, Odinga, etc are racist and over the top dirty, when the Obama campaign itself called Palin a Nazi, leaked her personal information, openly attacked baby Trigg and Bristol Palin (I thought families were off-limits?), etc
Pathetic and downright hypocritical. No class…

P.S. Maybe you should actually think about that before losing your mind over every fake scandal the Daily Kos, AP, or etc start. Why not research it like I have. You won’t find me claiming Obama is Muslim on anything on my blog, just the solid facts.
