Pledge of Allegiance/School Prayer

By Starbix

I get so pissed off when the people who are supposed to be teaching the future of our country start pushing their own ideals and beliefs on the students. I happened to walk into a classroom where I work while they were saying the Pledge. First off, I have a big problem with the Pledge as it exists today. Namely the inclusion of “under God”. I heard him, after they’d finished, say “amen”. He then proceeded with glee to point out that in addition to “amen” he also said “for which it used to stand”, obviously making a reference to all those godless heathens wanting to remove “under God” from the Pledge. It took every ounce of willpower I had not to turn and school him on the fact that “under God” was inserted in 1954, during the McCarthy era when nearly everyone was trying as hard as they could to distance themselves from the atheist commies. Those words in the pledge are a direct violation of the establishment clause. By using tax-payers money to pay teachers to lead their students in the Pledge which asserts the existence of a god is a blatant violation of the First Amendment. I’ll bet you that if, instead of God, the Pledge said “under Odin”, “under Vishnu”, or even “under the Flying Spaghetti Monster” the Religious Right would be completely up in arms over the perceived slight to their faith. And why? Because they don’t believe in any of those gods. They want everyone to kowtow to their god. Well, sorry folks. The Constitution is a completely secular document and the country it represents is, or should be, completely secular. The only we can have true freedom of religion is to have freedom from religion. Anyway, rant over. Go back to your lives people.

I didn’t have the time to watch the whole video so could you explain to me what a creation/evolution debate has to do with using class-time to proselytize to a captive audience of 7th graders? Also, I wouldn’t necessarily bring Dr. Dino when talking about Christians and tax-related issues. What do your tax dollars have to do with the issue addressed in this blog post?

Pledge of Allegiance/School Prayer, By using tax-payers money to pay teachers , this is what you said up there,so the video is talking about the atheist religious beliefs being tought in school as if there are facts ,and this guy is going threw and disproven the facts that are being tought in school using the tax payers money to spread the lies that are published in school as if there facts, and the guy shows what part are lies and have been addmitted to being lies and are still bieng published in shool text books, and it is a religion, its ones beliefe in something, and the tax payers that you where refering to are paying for it.so i guess you could say you have to religious beliefs being tought in school, you dont just have one,so watch the video and you will here the people reactions to the things that are said very good watch the whol video,so this has every thing to do with your post

Would you mind telling me what you think atheist religious beliefs are? Last time I checked, atheism is simply disbelief in a god or gods. Are they specifically teaching kids to disbelieve in a god or gods? I really don’t have time to watch this whole thing. Can you give me the time stamps in the video where these issues are addressed? Thanks.
